Construction and design

  • Available with one or two cavities; perforated aluminium spacers contain desiccant and the assembly is hermetically sealed.
  • The cavity retains dry air or argon, reducing conducted heat and condensation between panes.
  • Lower-conductivity spacers may be specified when compatible with sealant, dimensions and system requirements.
  • Can combine float, tempered, heat-strengthened, laminated, reflective and Low-E panes with individual bow below 2 mm.
  • Glass type, cavity width, weight, wind, sound and cost must be designed together.

Caution in use

  • Aluminium spacers conduct heat — consider high-performance spacer systems for demanding thermal specs
  • Units are thick and heavy, requiring wider glazing channels and suitable support, and cost more than monolithic glass.
  • Finished units cannot be trimmed; verify dimensions before ordering.
  • For high-rise use, position laminated outer panes and special coating surfaces according to project requirements.
  • Inspect spacer alignment, seals and cavity cleanliness before installation.
